S.A. Slayer was originally known just as Slayer, but since there was another Slayer at that time and they had already put out an album, they threatened the San Antonio Slayer with a lawsuit, and so they had to put the S.A. before their name. The band released two ripping metal albums before they disbanded. Both these are very hard to obtain and are seen as real US metal jewels. This debut album features vocalist Steve Cooper (Juggernaut), guitarist Bob Catlin (Juggernaut), bass player Don Van Stavern (Riot) and drummer Davd McClain (Machine Head/Sacred Reich). When the band was formed back in 1981 it didnt take that long before the band became one of the biggest draws of the critically acclaimed Texas metal scene. With the Prepare To Die EP under their belts, San Antonio’s Slayer continued to gig locally making a name for themselves as one of the premier progressive power metal bands in North America. When it comes to early US metal it doesn’t get much better than this.
