Swedish Death Metal is without a shadow of a doubt a legendary beast. You can talk about Stockholm acts such as Entombed and Dismember or Gothenburg acts such as At The Gates and all the other acts that came at the same time. The Swedish act Smothered deliver their debut album, The Inevitable End, and it melds the old school Swedish Death Metal vibe with thrashier elements. Their is also a HP Lovecraft vibe both in the cover artwork and in the song titles, Crawling Chaos, Re-Animated and Madness Take Me. This is a good and impressive debut and Smothered will now help Entrails to wave the flag for the rebirth of Swedish death metal. The whole album reeks of old Dismember. This is pure Swedeath magnificence.
