Los Angeles based The Album Network was a weekly radio music tip sheet/industry magazine geared toward radio stations, especially those that specialized in Album Oriented Rock (AOR) formatted radio. It began in July of 1978 and published for over 20 years, ending in March 2003. Subscribers would also receive the Tune Up series of promotional CDs which typically included a mix of mainstream and up-and-coming artists from a specific genre (rock, Top 40, alternative, etc.) They got Tommy Nast over from the Northeast radio who started to befriend label executives and rock stars alike. Tommy was loved by all industry label executives and bands alike and was one of the few lucky ones that got to see a reunited Led Zeppelin at Jason Bonham’s wedding in England. He helped the label to grew as he were friends with up-and-coming artists such as Motley Crue, Michael Jackson, Traveling Wilburys etc. When they were at their height they produced no less than 7 music magazines for the music industry, including the prestigious Album Network and Urban Network as well as Network 40. Besides their Tune-Up cds they also released In-Store Play, Rock Tune Up, Unsigned Bands, Next 40 Tune Up and the Virtually Alternative promo compilation series. Since the radio stations that got these CDs had to be an Album Network magazine subscriber, and since these Tune-Up CDs were format specific (rock or alternative or top 40 etc) they were pressed in very limited numbers and have become highly collectable.
