Markus Grosskopf is a known bass player who has been with Helloween from the very beginning and remained there during the rough days. Additionally he is also a member of Weinhold, Shock Machine and Tobias Sammet project band Avantasia. Markus solo project called Markus Grosskopfs Bassinvaders is a weird idea of making an entire album without any guitars at all. The band for this album is beside Markus, Schmier (Destruction), Peavy Wagner (Rage) and Tom Angeripper (Sodom). Apart from the three bass tormenting charismatic frontmans Markus has put up an impressive guest list to cover the seats behind the microphone, the drum kit and also some additional bass players see a complete list below. The album was composed by Grosskopf, Angelripper and Schmier and the songs aren’t that far away from their main bands so you can expect some metal filled to its fullest with power and some awesome bass solos. The album not only proves that bass is essential but that it also can stand alone in a band as a main melodic instrument. Markus has also recorded a cover version of Helloweens Eagle Fly Free where the opening old time classic guitar riff is excellently performed with the four string instrument instrument instead. Apollo Papathanasio, the voice of Firewind, adds his high pitch vocals during the chorus lines and really spices things up. One of my album favorites, The Asshole Song welcomes the voice of Jesper Blinzer from D.A.D. and presents some jazzy breaks and an ala Breadfan opening riff. With this album Markus has managed to create an interesting all-star project with various members that all have added their special touch and created a most enjoyable album. The guests on here are amazing. Vocals comes from Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind, Majestic), Jesper Binzer (D-A-D), Peavy Wagner (Rage). Bass work are handled by Billy Sheehan (Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr.Big), Rudy Sarzo (Dio, Whitensake, Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot), Lee Rocker (Stray Cats), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent), DD Verni (Overkill), Wyzard (Mothers Finest), Dirk Schlächter (Gamma Ray) Joey Vera (Armored Saint, Fates Warning, Anthrax), Stig Pedersen (D.A.D), Nibbs (Saxon), Tobias Exxel (Edguy), Jens Becker (Grave Digger, Running Wild), Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), Peter Baltes (Accept), Jan S. Eckert (Masterplan), Michael Muller (Jaded Heart). Drums comes from Andre Hilgers (Rage, Axxis) and Stefan Arnold (Grave Digger)
