Description
Weapon was a blackened death metal band formed in early 2003 in Calgary, Canada. Shortly after the band was founded, frontman Vetis Monarch moved back to his birthplace of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where the Within The Flesh Of The Satanist demo tape and the Violated Hejab EP were recorded with a Bangladeshi line-up. He returned to Canada in 2005, this time relocating to the city of Edmonton. The band then released their debut album, Drakonian Paradigm, in 2009 and two more albums before dissolving in 2013. Opening instrumental Weapon is the first hint that there are far more to Drakonian Paradigm than blast beats and tremolo picking. A perfect, albeit grimy, mix of trad, death, and black metal, the number is also much more than a traditional (read: obligatory) intro, the leads and thrashy rhythm romp particularly notable. Its not an album that you might fall in love with within the first listening but trust after you spin it a second time then you will notice all the different layers and oddities the band ad to their music. There are so much stuff that falls out of the traditional black metal realms and its those things that makes the album such an intriguing and wholly entertaining album. The fact that it does not restrict itself to an airtight black metal box but ads the influences from traditional, thrash, and death metal to backing shouts, piano, doomy breaks etc. So much small things are going on that its clear that this band has really make thoughts and depths to their product. Drakonian Paradigm is a clear example why theese little things make all the difference in the world. Highly recommended and interesting album
