A knight in armour wielding a battle ax, overlooking a bloody battlefield with dragons flying in the sky. If this album cover doesn’t scream power metal then I don’t know what does. Not only does the cover scream power metal but so does the music contained inside. This is Eternia’s first full length disc which is a follow up to their 1999 debut ep ‘The Guardian Of The Treasure’. Eternia was formed in 1997 by guitarist Daniel Niemann, bass player Patrik Nordendahl and drummer Magnus Larsson. They were joined by guitar player Ronny Blylod and finally vocalist Mats Dahlberg. After the release of the EP, the band received great response and made a deal with Edler music AB to release their next album which turned out to be the one youre reading about now. Theres no doubt right off the bat that these guys are out to kick some metal ass. ‘Taste of Victory’ sets the tone of the disc early with lots of shredding guitars and double bass drumming to make even most discerning power metal bang his head in metal ecstasy. The glorious warrior theme continues with ‘To The Battlefields’. ‘Sailing Home’ slows the pace down with an excellent ballad about the mighty Vikings sailing the seas in search of kingdoms and land but always dreaming of home. Dahlberg’s vocals are especially poignant on this song. He has a voice that is both powerful and raw yet has its own character. The disc closes out with ‘Shadoria’ and ‘Shadoria pt. II’. A tale of a quest and the legendary village of Shadoria. Great story and ripping finish to the disc. The music is nothing groundbreaking but it is done well and that is a major plus in my books.
