Description
Canadian Cryptopsy have pushed the envelope within the technical, extreme metal genre since the early 90’s and accomplished an impressive run through a total of 7 studio albums so far, gathering a loyal worldwide following as well as massive acclaim in the media and among musicians for their relentless and over-the-top musical delivery. ‘The Best Of Us Bleed’ is an extensive compilation of the band’s career so far, divide into two discs with over 135 minutes of total playing time. The first disc is titled ‘16 Stabwounds’ and covers the more recent years, opening up with 3 exclusive, newer studio tracks from 2011, before heading into some highlights selected from the studio albums released on Century Media Records since the band’s signing to the label in 1998: “The Unspoken King” (2008), “Once Was Not” (2005), “And Then You’ll Beg” (2000) and “Whisper Supremacy” (1998). The second disc is titled “Bury The Past Alive” and encompasses the more obscure and rare side of things on this collection, starting out with classic cuts from Cryptopsys two initial and more underground studio albums “None So Vile” (1996) and “Blasphemy Made Flesh” (1994), then running through live recordings from different eras and with different band-line-up’s (from 1998, 2003 and 2004) and ending up with a very raw but effective 4-song rehearsal recording from 1998, which originally got the band signed to the label. Having toured relentlessly all over the globe for many years with other genre-leaders such as Dimmu Borgir, Vader, The Black Daliah Murder, Kataklysm, Suffocation, Candiria, Six Feet Under, Poison The Well, Nasum or Nile, Cryptopsy are widely recognized as one of the most powerful live-performers within their scene. “The Best Of Us Bleed” showcases a total of 4 different singers throughout the various episodes of the bands career and the featured variety of tracks unmistakably illustrates the progression of a band that restlessly redefined the boundaries of extreme music. This jam-packed 2CD compilation album clearly stresses Cryptopsy as leaders of their genre and most of all, as a band that continuously refused to stand still in a scene otherwise dominated by compromise and overly tactical musical approach. And as Decibel Magazine’s Adrien Begrand correctly puts it as part of his liner notes for this release, “It’s been a tumultuous 20-year ride, but Cryptopsys evolution has been fascinating to witness the entire time and. As long as there are boundaries in extreme metal, Cryptopsy will always be around to see just how far those boundaries can be stretched.” Track listing: 1. Boden-previously unreleased 2011 track 2.
