Description

‘The Trooper’ was the bands second single from their 1983 album ‘Piece Of Mind’. The song is about the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 during the Crimean War, and is at least partially based upon Alfred Lord Tennyson's poem ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’, taking the viewpoint of one of the slain troopers, who, in the cover art, is perceived as a bald Eddie. Many Iron Maiden songs are based on books or movies; this seems to be a running theme in the band's work, especially songs written by Steve Harris. ‘The Charge Of The Light Brigade’ poem was later referenced by Iron Maiden again in the song ‘Paschendale’ from their 2003 album ‘Dance of Death’. The track was re-released on single again in 2005 with the original studio and a live version of the track. Track listing: 1. The Trooper-live 2003 2. The Trooper 3. Prower-live 2005 4. The Trooper-live 2003-enhanced video 5. The Trooper-promo video
