Catalogue number: MCAC-10426 1992s Tangled In Reins was the second album from Steelheart, one of the last hair metal bands to really make it big in the 1990s. The band made a big splash with their self-titled debut, largely on the strength of frontman Mili Matijevic's powerhouse voice, but for whatever reason, Tangled in Reins wasn't quite the hit that the second albums from Firehouse (Hold Your Fire) and Slaughter (Wild Life) were. Hit or not, Tangled in Reins is a fantastic album if you're a fan of this kind of melodic rock. Like the first Steelheart album, Tangled in Reins has a great mix of upbeat rockers and soulful ballads. There are great guitar hooks and melodies, and Matijevic is just fantastic here. Songs like Loaded Mutha and Late for the Party are the perfect party rock songs, Electric Love Child is a slower, but wickedly grooving number, and the ballad Mama Don't You Cry is the album's Angel Eyes. There are a lot of songs that should have been hits, even as late as 1992, but that never really happened. Due to an on-stage accident that severely injured Matijevc, this ended up being Steelheart's final release of the 90s. Of course, with the rise of grunge it might have been the last one anyway. If you liked the first Steelheart album, you'll love Tangled in Reins. I'd recommend it to any serious fan of the late '80s and early `90s hair metal/melodic rock/arena rock sound. Track listing: 1.
