Original press with die-cut cover and printed innersleeve
Germanys Axxis showed with their debut album Kingdom Of The Night that the German power metal band had plenty of talent, but was somewhat lacking when it came to originality (sounding like a Scorpions/Helloween hybrid). While those seeking for originality might had hoped for a more unique sound on the second album. Instead, it turned out to be more of the same. Don’t get me wrong – it’s a quality album and is easy to listen to. It just doesn’t break any new ground for the band. Its an extremely well practiced and produced commercialized metal album, with its ballad-like lyrics, excellent usage of synthetic effects between riffs, and the well-loved Klaus Meine vocals. If you’re a power/traditional metal fan and you don’t mind your metal bands displaying a clear appreciation for their influences, then you should find II to be quite enjoyable. If you’re looking for something a bit more unique, then Axxis is probably not the band for you.
