Description

Apocalyptica, the Finnish cello act that started out as a Metallica cover act then playing other metal covers as well. Then they started to write their own songs and then using guest vocalist on singles like Nina Hagen, Sandra Nasic (Guano Apes) and Linda Sundblad (Lambretta). For their 2004 single, ‘Bittersweet’, the band joined forces with Ville Valo, lead vocalist of the pop-goths HIM and Lauri Ylonen from The Rasmus. This time the band wrote this dark romantic ballad together with the two singers. Ville performs the dark side while Lauri Ylonen is responsible for the lighter shades of the track. The first sounds, played in a rather classical style, create some kind of dramatic scene, time for goose bumps, isn’t it? Talking about goose bumps, time for Ville Valo, who has just got out of his grave – his voice just sounds like that. Lauri’s bright voice is the perfect contrast, day and night can’t be more different than that, but it simply fits. So what do we have here – two great singers, guitar-like cellos and classical-sounding cellos, supported by a slow drum rhythm – che bello. Both Bittersweet and Misconstruction would later end up on the self titled album released in 2005.
