Galadriel, founded in 1995, are a Slovakian melodic doom metal band with male/female vocals, piano etc. inspiried by sci-fi, fantasy and ofcourse Tolkien. The group was forged by two former Trojan Warrior personnel vocalist / bassist Dodo Datel and drummer Dr. Victor. Joining them would be lead guitarist Voloda Zadropa, rhythm guitarist Chulo Malachovsky and, in 1996, female lead singer Soňa 'Witch' Kozákova. The debut album ‘Empire Of Emptiness’ is a rather doom oriented album and not as gothic as the later albums. But even if this album is mostly doom metal, it is however of a quite accessible and almost catchy sort. No sea-level down-tuned guitars, no thirty minutes long tracks or tempos below 10 bpm – songs, without being utterly fast, still manage to sound lively. This is a very promising debut which received 4/5 from English magazine Kerrang. For anyone who likes dark, melancholic doom metal, this is definitely worth a try.
