Polish band Kat started as a heavy/hard rock band then turned into a black/thrash/speed beast quite similar to early Venom with the great ‘Metal And Hell/666’ albums. The next step in their career was the brilliant Metallica-influenced ‘Oddech Wymarych’. Then this fourth album ‘Bastard’ in 1991. This album shows some really technical thrash metal. This feast for your ears begins with ‘W Bezksztatnej Bryle Uwieziony’. This is a song that has a strong structure compounded of heavy drumming, complicated riffs and rough vocals. The second track ‘Zawieszony Sznur’ has beautiful melodies, great bass-playing, dissonance in chorus and a twisted solo. ‘N.D.C.’ is a two minutes long instrumental brilliant, explosion of technical skills and sense of melody. This is hailed by KAT fans as a minor masterpiece and it comes in a magnificent cover artwork of a frightened angel and a devilish-lady.
