New Brighton, Us black death metal act Sathanas fourth full length album has a strong old school mid paced blackened thrash feel to it, similar to the bands of the European scene at the time. If you haven’t heard their earlier work you can expect straight forward, badass, headbanging blackened thrash metal assaults of the highest order. The song structures don’t require any brain-bending dissection; they are all pretty simplistic, which is not a bad thing at all. This is a band that has been around for such a long time and they still continues to make good music (see Incantation and Cianide to know what I’m talking about). More techniques are developed, skills are improved and more influences come into the mix. The guitar has a nice gritty sound to it, backed up by a cleanly played, yet filthy sounding bass tone. The drums have a great trigger free sound while maintaining a full and cleanly mixed texture, which is just a rare find in metal all together, new and old. I highly recommend this album to anyone to who likes their metal played in the old school vein and just Sathanas fans in general. With former Acheron member Jim Strauss on drums Track listing: 1.
