Description

The history of Kalapacs starts in 1982 when Jozsef Kalapacs becomes singer in Pokolgep and an appearance on Hungarian national TV in 1983 brought them nation-wide recognition, which led to the release of two rare singles in 1983 and 1984. Their first full-length album came out in 1986, and this line-up stayed constant until 1990 when singer Kalapacs leaves Pokolgep to form Omen. In 1996 Kalapacs released a solo hard rock album on a private pressing simply called Kalapacs which means ‘Hammer’ which is indeed Jozsefs original family name. In 1999 he recruited his old Pokolgep friend Endre Paksi to re-record some old Pokolgep songs from when around both of them were in the band (1982-1985), before the first Pokolgep LP. Two other members of Ossian, Attila Weber (guitars) and Peter Hornyak (drums) complete the lineup. The recording was released in 2000 with the title ‘Az Elso Merenylet/The First Incident’ but since Pokolgep was, and still is, an active band, the Kalapacs name had to be used for this recording, but for all intents and purposes, it is a Pokolgep album. After the ‘lost’ Pokolgep songs Kalapacs recruited new band members and started to play shows and write new own material and the first real metal album was released in 2002 with the name ‘Oszton’. The follow up album ‘Totem’ in 2003 showed no sign that Kalapacs was going to slow down or change music direction. This album still has the classic sound first developed way back when in the early days of Pokolgep, then transferred to Omen. Classic sounding heavy metal, nice and speedish at times, with great riffs and melodic solos. This unashamedly sounds like metal is supposed to be (namely: Judas Priest meets Accept). Sometimes faster than other times, but even when midpaced there is a great riff base to move the songs along and force the listener into headbanging, or else. If you're missing the classic 1987 style of Pokolgep sound then look no further this is the voice of Pokolgep continuing in good tradition Track listing: 1. Totem 2. Oszinten/Honestly 3.
