Description
German MGM pressing with gatefold cover
2001: A Space Odyssey is the classic benchmark for Sci Fi films. Extremely sober and serious AC Clarke and Stanley Kubrick story of first contact with mysterious ancient aliens. Instead of bug eyed monsters, we get a realistic portrayal of the fact that a very advanced civilization would not be comprehensible to humans. When it first was released, many were puzzled by what they thought was an ambiguous ending. But time has shown that the ending was brilliant, and portrayed the next step for humans. MGM was not able to use the Also Sprach Zarathustra by Herbert von Karajan with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra that was featured in film for this soundtrack album. Instead all early pressings of this recording includes a version of the track made by the Karl Böhm with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. The early pressings also includes Also Sprach Zarathursa and Blue Danube twice to fill the album runtime. Later pressings, from 1996, has the original Herbert Von Karajan version and longer versions of some material. This is one of the earlier pressings
