In 1979 and early 1980 Ac/dc saw their commercial fortunes shifting into high gear outside their native Australia. Their latest album Highway To Hell was packed with some of their best songs. Helmed by incoming producer Robert John Mutt Lange, the album was Ac/dc’s first to crack the upper half of Billboard’s Top 200, soaring all the way to No. 17 and sending the title track to No. 47 on the pop chart. Their tour were doing good and Ac/dc looked like they were poised for worldwide superstardom. The band would, in fact, soon make that leap – but they’d sadly have to do it without Scott, who was found dead on Feb. 19, 1980. This album was recorded at the Pavillon De Paris in France on the 9th of December 1979 and special guest on the European tour in 1979 were none other then Judas Priest that were out touring for their fifth album, Killing Machine. The two bands are both featured on this album and the band did two shows this day in Paris and this is the afternoon show. On this day Bon Scott had come down with laryngitis that very morning, an affliction that did nothing to affect his commanding performance. Its no shock that Ac/dc deafened and destroyed that evening, tearing through songs like Live Wire, Sin City, T.N.T., Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be and several cuts from new album Highway To Hell, including Girls Got Rhythm and Walk All Over You. Angus Young’s now famous striptease during an extended section of Bad Boy Boogie is a hoot. With Mr Halford and Mr Scott on the same album it cant be more ultimate for any fan of heavy metal. An essential purchase for fans.
