Little Monsters features a soundboard audio recording from July 21, 1979 in Oakland, CA. Ac/dc was playing the third day of the Day on the Green Festival in 1979, along with Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, and many others. The festival itself was put on by Bill Graham, and was started in 1973 and ran until 1992. The last Day On The Green overseen by Graham took place the same month as his death in a helicopter crash in 1991. There were a Day On The Green festival the following year in the wake of Graham’s death, but sadly, once Graham passed away, the festival lost popularity and was ended in 1992. All of the Days on the Green were held in the Oakland Coliseum. What made them special was that they were literally days on the green; all of the shows on the bill were played during the day, which was out of the ordinary for the time. Ac/dc played the festival twice; day 3 in 1979 and day 5 in 1978 (September 2, 1978). The complete list of artists that played in 1979 is in correct day order: Day 1: Boston, Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money, Robert Fleischman (originally the band UK was scheduled to open, eventually being replaced by Robert Fleischman). Day 2: Journey, The J. Geils Band, UFO, Thin Lizzy, Nazareth, The Rockets. Day 3: Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Ac/dc, Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush, St.Paradise. Day 4: Foghat, Foreigner, The Cars, Gamma and Bram Tchaikovsky. Day 3 of the ‘Day On The Green’ festival 1979 was also called the ‘Monsters Of Rock’ show. Ted Nugent, Aerosmith and AC/DC’s set has been bootlegged in video form. This was reputedly the only footage from any of the 1970s Day On The Green concerts to be available, (other film footage has been found, but not widely released – Fleetwood Mac from 1976 for one). Footage of Lynyrd Skynyrd performing ‘Freebird’ at the 7/4/1977 Day on the Green can be seen in the documentary film ‘Freebird – The Movie’
