Back in 1992 and 1993 Ace Frehley hit the road and toured without any new album to promote. He simply called the tour “Just For Fun Tour”. In 1993 the tour hit Japan where the spaceman played four shows between the 4th and 8th of November. This album features the show at Diamond Hall in Nagoya Japan on the 7th of November. Ace maybe for some was way past his Kiss prime, dont know if I can agree on that. A sober Frehley could still bring it on and deliver. This ain’t a polished studio gig. It’s raw and gritty and from an almost 30 year old tape. You can hear the crowd, the amps buzzing, Ace cracking jokes between songs like he’s just hangin’ out. And that’s what I love. It feels alive. Not overproduced. No autotune ghosts here. The setlist? Killer. Mix of solo stuff and Kissclassics. Cold Gin? Perfect. That tone. That swagger. He nails it. And Shock Me? Man… chills. Even without the old pyro madness, the guitar screams like it’s possessed. But look, it’s not flawless. Some vocals are shaky. Ace never was a powerhouse singer, and time didn’t fix that. A few lyrics get mumbled. He also delivers his own solo album tune New York Groove and the crowd goes nuts. Anyway, if you’re into raw rock n roll, actual playing, not just hits – grab this. Don’t expect perfection. Expect smoke, distortion, and a Spaceman who still knows how to light up a stage. Even if it’s just on tape.
