Description
Adam Bomb recorded material for New York Times back in 1990 with producer Jack Douglas, who had recorded Aerosmith and John Lennon, at the Record Plant. Adam wrote and recorded the album with drummer Bobby Chouinard and Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens. The three of them rearranged the demos and started what would become the album New York Times. Jack and Adam brought in several top notch guest musicians like Nicky Hopkins and Mick Taylor (who played with The Rolling Stones), and Flo and Eddie, who were backup singers for Marc Bolan. Drummer Bobby brought in Billy Squier keyboardist Alan St. Jon and bassist T.M. Stevens. With so many friends coming and going it became a highly entertaining session that were made under the influence of many illegal substances. The recording session didnt end well. Jack Douglas had to be sent to rehab and the master tapes for the twelve songs that were completed, but not mixed, were stolen. Adam was contacted several years later and got the offer to buy the master tapes back. Just the background story and all these amazing guest should make you interested to hear this album. When you start to listen to the album then you’re thrown back like a time travel. The opening track Lying With Dogs sounds Aerosmith with a huge and fat horn section. Then we have more late 80s material before were thrown back on some songs to the early Seventies when the music gets a nice mix of early punk and glam. Early Cooper, New York Dolls and punk. Adam Bomb worked with two ex-Hanoi Rocks in the past so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some of his songs could take this turn. All the guests as well as Adams own musical history makes it an uneven but also interesting album. This is hairmetal, sleaze, glam as well as sexiness of the pre-punk era. Overall an enjoyable experience and its fun to finally have New York Times released.
