Description

Almah was born as a solo project by Eduardo Falaschi, the lead singer of Angra at that time. On the first self titled album, released in 2006, Falaschi wrote all the songs and lyrics, recorded all the guitars and keyboards and created arrangements of voices, guitars, bass, drums, keyboards and orchestra, acting as both vocalist and producer. The debut album was a great success and after a successful Brazilian tour the solo project increased and a full band was created. In 2008 Edu Falaschi came riding back with the second album, Fragile Equality. The album is in some ways a continuation and in others a slight differentiation from the debut album. Firstly the differentiation – there aren’t the guest appearances on this album that there were on the first album. To me that is a positive move here, Edu deciding that having established the Almah name with the debut he did not need the novelty of having other players on board to get his message across. It makes this album feel more complete in some ways and more solid. The similarities are also positives. Having learned his craft well Falaschi and knows how to make a good full bodied Euro metal album with all the familiar twinges of goth and dollops of power metal convention. It makes the album familiar enough to connect with its target audience. There is a lot of heads down let’s get into it songs spread amongst the ten tunes on offer here though there are the obligatory slower numbers. Which isn’t a problem as it allows a let up from the faster numbers and allows Falaschi some licence to show he can do such tunes. To compare this to Angra – as is almost a given – this album feels more straight ahead. Which is a good thing in many respects. I can safely say that if you liked the first album then this one is worthy of your money.
