Amber Asylum was largely Kris Force on this effort, having handled guitars, samplers, violin, and vocals on all tracks, with some additional guest instrumentation (cello, keyboard, piano, synth, and clarinet) spread out amongst six of the 12 pieces. Its instrumental pure mood music with an atmosphere that is chilling. You dont realize that you miss the singing until you here Aurora, which is the only track on here that has vocals and then when you hear Kris Force beautiful voice then its evident that you want more after that track. Distorted guitar and random clarinet trills lash out from a menacing wall of strings and synth. The vibe is delerium, the music you’d hear while asleep with a fever of 104. Melodies are indistinct and haunting, kind of Miranda Sex Garden deconstructed or Rasputina with no sense of humor at all. Classical string music mixed with ambient makes this an odd one. Later albums showcase more structure and a lot more of Kris Force’s vocals. Frozen In Amber though is still an album that death-ambient fans need to check out. Just don’t plan on humming along with much of it.
