Description

Solo albums from Royal Hunt man Andre Andersen. Although Andersen was born in Russia he had made his home in Copenhagen for many years. Vocals on the debut album ‘Changing Skin’, first delivered in Japan by JVC Victor in October 1998 prior to a European issue via Steamhammer in May 1999, come courtesy of the Narita and Zoser Mez credited Kenny Lubcke and session drums from Kai Laege, Narittas Allan Sorensen and Royal Hunts Kenneth Olsen. Royal Hunts lead vocalist Henrik Brokman also assists on backing vocals. None too surprisingly Royal Hunts other guitarist Jacob Kjaer also gets in on the action. However Andre Anderrsen pretty much has creative control over Royal Hunt, so the logical reason for him to record a solo album would be to explore new areas and try new ideas, right? Well, Changing Skin is basically a Royal Hunt album with keyboard solos instead of guitar solos, which I suppose is good news if you’re a die-hard Royal Hunt fan. If you were looking for something new and different from Anderssen, then you may be a bit disappointed by this album. Changing Skin sounds remarkably similar to the Royal Hunt albums that followed it, particularly Fear And The Mission. It’s a solid, progressive, melodic rocker, with (surprise) lots of keyboards. I found it to be an enjoyable album because it sounds a lot like the Royal Hunt albums I love but for a solo album I wish it could have been a bit more unique.
