French act Anorexia Nervosa changed direction with the 1999 album, Sodomizing The Archangel, and called their style dark nihilistic metal. Their following albums Drudenhaus (2000) and New Obscurantis Order (2001) established the band as a symphonic black metal force to be reckoned with and they toured Europe with the likes of Cradle Of Filth, Rotting Christ and Agressor. New Obscurantis Order is a very creative blastingly fast brutal black metal with alot of the Cradle of Filth drama aspects to it. The band incorporates it all into their music. Lots and lots of fast guitars, amazing keyboard arrangements; chaotic black metal vocals and screams and lyrics that combines both English and French lyrics. They even have thundering horns, trumpets and sharp violin work. It might sound like a chaotic mess on paper but it works and the end result is a very coherent and consise piece of work that cuts deep and leaves a mark.
