The 1999 album Disguised Masters is not a new studio album but a compilation of leftover songs and remixes of tracks from La Masquerade Infernale. If you thought that the original Arcturus was a schizophrenic experience then you can try to imagine what happens when someone starts to remix and experiment with the tracks. We have one new track, Deception Genesis, which is very similar in style to La Masquerade Infernale. Then we have those techno/hip-hop/industrial remixes from the aforementioned album and they are a challenging listen. For the most part, it is an instrumental album but it do surprse when we get a gangsta-rap remix of Master Of Disguise, who knew Garm had this in him, and then it ends with a symphonic version of Ad Astra. So it feels like Disguised Masters was created more as a sinful pleasure for the band than for the fans. Its an interesting album, just very different to what you would expect from Arcturus or maybe its not as the band seems to have no limits.
