The Rack was Asphyx first official album released on Century Media in 1991. Originally Asphyx recorded an album in 1990 entitled Embrace The Death for CMFT Productions in the UK, but the label went under and never was unleashed until 1996 when Century Media finally released it. The Rack defines the word Brutality with its chainsaw sounding guitars and sick vocals which sounds like vocalist Martin Van Drunen is being tortured during the recording of this album. Raw and primitive and with a unique guitar sound. One of the most brutal, sadistic and barbaric albums in Death Metal history. When Asphyx celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2017 they decided to remaster and re-release this classic slab of death metal. Being a long time fan of the band Dan Swanö jumped on the chance to clean up the master tapes. Not only did the he do a fantastic job to give this album a new life he also took the chance to record his version of the open track “The Quest Of Absurdity”. This cover version is included on the bonus album that also features other death metal giants doing their version of the tracks on The Rack. Here you have Grave, Desaster, Skeletal Remains, Coffins, Entrails, Purgatory, Hodded Menace and Deserted Fear. Lovers of death metal now get a great opportunity to rediscover the beauty that is The Rack
