This ‘Raw Sensation Of Nostalgia And Nihilistic’ is the first full-length album of the Mexican band Astarot, that is specialised in atmospheric black metal with depressive undertones. Astarot plays it by the book. That is to say: fuzzy guitars, background synths and quite some repetition make up this album for the most part. But some guitar-effects also show a slight post-black influence. The overall mood is doomy and gloomy and there isn’t much aggression present, although this isn’t what Astarot is aiming for, I presume. Even though the band succeeds in creating a decent atmosphere, the album still sounds a bit too much like it’s bound to its genre’s limitations.
