Astrofaes is an Ukrainian pagan black metal band, established in 1996 in Kharkiv. The band features a member of Drudkh, which you should already know is one of the best black metal bands out there today. Astrofaes fourth album, Ancestors Shadows, is among the cream of Ukraines black metal crop. I love how this recording has an aura of pride. Pride in the Ukranian people, pride in their land, pride in their Gods, pride in their art. Attention is given to the environment in particular, to thunder and to fire and to ice, and it seemingly represents a journey into war across/for Ukranian soil. The vocals are barked out and the music is mostly mid-paced and nicely varied.
