Description

Polish pressed music cassette. Clear cassette with printed paper label.

Poland is probably the country that had the most record labels in the world that only released cassettes. But even though there were lots of labels the market was still small as they only printed these for their own market inside of Poland. And a label in one town maybe lacked the distribution for another town and so on. A Warzaw or Krakow label might print more copies of a tape then labels from a smaller town. So even if there are thousands of releases you will notice how rare some are if you start to try to list the catalog number of one particular label. Some cassettes just rarely shows up. One of the bigger cassettes labels were Takt Music in Warsaw and another one was MG Records, which was a sub-label of GM Records (both used the same logo during the early 90s). Just like Takt they started in 1990 and existed up until 1994 and during those 4 years they released approx 3000 tapes. Under the name of GM Records they started a pressing plant in Poland after these cassette years was over.

Before abandoning their death metal roots in the mid 1990s to go off in a a complete different direction, Atrocity was perhaps the European death metal band. Vocalist Alex Krull’s brainchild Atrocity released two albums of killer technical, well written death metal music. The first, Hallucinations (a concept album about drug abuse), was a raw and punishing effort showing strong influences from German thrash a la Kreator as well as American death metal in the style of Atheist or Obituary. By the time of their second album, Todessehnsucht, they had evolved and released what probably is one of the finest German death metal albums. The album has such a thick atmosphere of gloom and decay and the band had started to experiment as there are hints of classical aspirations in the construction and ideas that are on display in the music. This is rarely mentioned as the total classic it should be and the most controversy it stirred up was because their Us label refused to release the album with its original title. So the American release is called Longing For Death. No matter what the title the album has in the end when the music is this good. It deserved more.
