Oslo, Norway’s Aura Noir is a side project for some of the local extreme metal scene’s most noted luminaries, to wit: vocalist/bassist Ole Jorgen Moe (Dodheimsgard, Immortal), guitarist Carl-Michael Eide (Dodheimsgard, Ved Buens Ende, Ulver, Satyricon) and guitarist Rune Ericksen (Mayhem). Aura Noirs third full length album ‘The Merciless’ was the first album to be released on the Tyrant Syndicate records, owned by Darkthrone’s Nocturno Culto and Fenriz. In the right purpose just to spew out old school black metal / thrash this album is a gem. Those Norwegians plays the raw style of thrash, the 80’s-based. With a fuck your god-attitude this album takes a little bit of Celtic Frost, some aggressive riffing that reminds of Cadaver, a few ‘borrowed’ Destruction riffs and quite some generic thrash riffs in general, blasphemous atmosphere, a fuzzy bass, necknapping solos making it a blackened headbanging-fest! Just press play again and headbang yourself back to the 80’s. Guest appearance by Fenriz (Darkthrone) and Nattefrost (Carpathian Forest).
