Aurora was founded in Gyor back in 1983 just in time for the Hungarian punk explosion. It was a time when punk concerts were popping up everywhere but at the authorities wasnt that found of the punk gangs strolling around in Hungary and tried to stop this. The members of Aurora soon had problems when all members received police warnings and vocalist Dayer even got as far having to spend some time in prison. After that, the band members could only perform under pseudonyms. In 1984 the whole country became familiar with their name and underground tapes were being copied and changed hands. But the band weren’t able to record any proper material as all studios were controlled by the state. So with some help from German friends they were able to enter the Marquee studio in Germany to record half a dozen songs for their Aurora 88 cassette. In Hungary, many punk rockers ranked the Aurora 88 cassette among the best releases that year. A year later the band released their debut album Viszlat Ivan (Goodbye Ivan) and during the next years it would sell more than 20 000 copies. It was released on cassette and vinyl in 1989, then repressed on vinyl and cassettes in 1990 while a third repressing was released in 1998. Then a cd release was finally made in 2019 as a 30th anniversary edition adding the Aurora 88 demo as bonus.
