Description

Swedens Backdraft is simply amazing on their debut Here to Save You All. If possible, imagine Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Spiritual Beggars or Johnny Cash meets Metallica meets George Thorogood. Basically the music on this disc is hard and heavy rock with a bit of a country twang and some stoner rock sensibilities mixed with a little blues just to be safe. The music on Here to Save You All is the coolest rock since Brand New Sin released their debut, and one could even argue that Backdraft shows them up too. Opening with the absolutely killer Convoy, a Rock/Blues jam with cowbells and a southern drawl that sounds like they’re directly from Alabama, but provide a solid beat that will have your boots stomping at the local biker bar. Backdraft demonstrates that they aren’t afraid to wear cowboy hats and that there are elements of country for which we can be thankful. Following is Wicked Man, carrying with it an unmistakable Bad to the Bone vibe and lyrics about bad men and one-night stands. Hey, it’s all fair game. Angels High shows how dynamic the group can be, marvellously leading us by the nose from acoustic to heavy and back, rocking the whole while. See You Burn and Devils Hand follow, but they’re probably the weakest two songs on the album, neither having the spirit nor songwriting of the first three. The last half of the album finishes up nicely with some truly rocking cuts including El Rancho and Original Sin, making Backdrafts debut about as solid as any other rock album I’ve heard in a long time. The music is fresh, well-played and very, very cool. In summary, Here to Save You All is the album the Dukes of Hazard wished they were cool enough to listen to, goddamn. Continue to jam boys.
