Description

Pagan metal from Poland, with vocals and lyrics by Wilczygniew Kurhan. Duch 300 Z Rany is the second album. Their debut album ‘Steel swords and fists of the Aryo-Slavonic Warriors’ from 2004 lacked a little bit of everything and didn’t impress at all. However with their second album ‘Duch 300 Z Rany’, the band have taken a tremendous leap forward. In the past they played a slugged tempo kind of music (with an occasional acceleration), but on ‘Duch 300 Z Rany’ speed has gone up considerably. Their pagan black metal is tight, multi-layered and stored with lots of acoustic intermezzo. The keyboards occasionally back up the rearguard, but don't play a prominent role. Furthermore blasts are flying everywhere. Over all this violence Wilczygniew Kurhan (some may know him from Gontyna Kry) murmurs and screams his through the very much inspired material. Thematically it's all about Slavonic legends and history with Barbarous Pomerania (the title is roughly translated as ‘Spirit of 300 from Rana Island’). The Polish duo very much succeeds in expressing the concept through the music using a tensive build-up and catchy riffs. In short I can say that Barbarous Pomerania is now a band to take in account in the pagan genre. More speed, more aggression and most importantly more depth make ‘Duch 300 Z Rany’ a much better album than the debut. Track listing: 1. Intro – Hungry Swords Of Wened’s 2.
