Double album
This album says it was recorded in Perth on the 14th of February in 1978. However the date and venue is wrong. The recording is actually from Perth Entertainment Center on the 14th of March 1978. The band did two shows at Perth, 14th and 15th of March and the first one has become famous for Carl Wilson being so drunk and stoned that he falls into the drumset during Darlin. All three Wilson brothers were going throgh some difficulties at the time but wile Brian and Dennis seems to be ok Carl is slurring and being provocative before finally passing out. The fact is that Beach Boys had been performing badly during the whole Australian tour, that started on the 2nd of March and ending in Sydney on the 19th of March. For several shows Carl had been high on smack and drunk but could still perform rather well considering his condition. This was an ill-fated tour and Carl held a press conference in Perth afterwards and apologized to the Australian fans. His public apology was in the Sydney papers on March 16 and also broadcasted on TV where he said that he must have had too many Mai Tais before the concert. The show organizers returned 2,000 dollars to upset fans. Carl promised it wouldn’t happen again. Sydney the 18th was supposed to be the tour-ender, but due to demand they added a day show on March 19. On this double album we have the night before that Carl accident. Its not a sober Carl here either but its not as bad as the next night and the band had around 15 musicians on stage so they were prepared to cover up any mistakes from Carl well. Tis album also features 9 bonus tracks that were recorded in Washington D.C on the 4th of July 1980. Its not the best sounding concert but an historic piece from that famous tour throughout the OZ countries in 1978.
