Digipak cd featuring two Beatles shows.

Indiana State Fair, Indianapolis, September 3 1964 (afternoon show)
The Beatles played two shows at the Indiana State Fair on September 3, 1964. The 5:00 PM show in the Coliseum was recorded by WIFE-AM. Flying in from the Philadelphia show the night before, The Beatles arrived in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fair on September 3, 1964. They kicked their afternoon concert off in the fairgrounds Coliseum, where they performed their 12-song set list running a little over a half-hour, before 10,000, or so, screaming fans. Since the show was an immediate sellout and the demand for tickets was so high, The Beatles agreed to do a second show in the evening, but since the coliseum was booked for another State Fair event, they had to set the stage up on a dirt race track in front of the grandstand. David Humphrey was one of the some 15,000 people who saw the second show, sort of. He watched at a distance, through a fence, with his parents. “We were on Paul’s side of the stage,” Humphrey said. “We could see the Beatles.” Humphrey was 8. He and his parents were not paying customers, but his two teenage sisters and cousin were. They were in the Grandstand. Some parents were lukewarm on the four long-haired English musicians who were cutting such a swath through the culture, but Humphrey’s parents liked the Beatles, and for the next few years Beatles music pulsed through the Humphrey house in Anderson, Indiana. Despite the mania surrounding the bands’ visit, 1964 was still a simpler time, as evidenced by the Beatles’ contract rider, the portion that details musicians’ hospitality needs. For instance, 2013 Indiana State Fair performers Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band requested, “‘Pork rinds (hot or BBQ), Turkey (please none with honey on it; that stuff is nasty), 1 box of live ammunition (.22, 9mm or 12 gauge, please no foreign ammunition).” The fair did not honour the request for ammo.” By comparison, the Beatles in 1964 were easy. In his letter to Robert Weedon at the Indiana State Fair, dated Aug. 10, three weeks before their historic appearance, Beatles’ handler Ira Sidelle of General Artists Corp. wrote that “we would appreciate it very much” if the lads’ dressing room could be equipped with “a supply of clean towels, chairs, a case of cold Coca Cola, and if at all possible, a portable TV set.

Sam Houston Colosseum, Houston, August 19 1965 (afternoon show)
August 19, 1965: On this day, The Beatles arrived at Houston International Airport, now known as Hobby, to play their only two concerts in Houston at the Sam Houston Coliseum. In less than 24 hours, Beatlemania morphed Houston into a city of Beatlemaniacs! And, it all started at the airport where thousands of fans, mostly teenagers, welcomed the Fab Four. Then, downtown at the Sheraton-Lincoln Hotel, where they’d rented out the entire 18th floor, girls on the street held binoculars to their eyes hoping to catch a glimpse of the band. At least 10,000 fans attended two identical concerts that were held at 3:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., and each 12-song set opened with “Twist and Shout,” followed by hits like “She’s a Woman,” “Dizzy Miss Lizzy,” and “I Wanna Be your Man.” Both shows lasted just 35 minutes. Critics said that the screaming fans were so loud that you couldn’t even hear The Beatles, and many girls were crying and passing out. Interesting to hear this historic piece from their one and only appearance date in Houston. Wow just listen to those screams
