The Satanist is the 10th studio album from the Polish Blackened Death Metal band. The album was produced by Behemoth, Wojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand at Hertz Studio. The album was then mixed by Matt Hyde and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover art was painted by renowned Russian painter and occultist Denis Forkas. The paint used included some of band leader Nergal’s own blood. As metal music gets more extreme, it seems that it is more difficult to find bands that are original and don’t blend in with the countless other bands in their respective genres. The anticipation for Behemoths The Satanist was huge and its is easily Behemoth’s best work. It is also their most varied work. It offers the blast beats we all love from drummer Inferno but The Satanist really impresses when there is more restraint displayed, especially in the first half of Blow your horns Gabriel and the spoken word part of In the Absence Ov Light. It is here that Behemoth successfully show that they are the best at their ferocious game while allowing themselves to breathe a little, displaying more soul and mood, which by contrast makes the listener appreciate the faster moments (which is still most of the album) even more. The bass is also more prominent and makes The Satanist, dare I say, even more fun to listen to. The sound of the album is crisp, tight, and the production is top notch. Every instrument is right where it is supposed to be and Nergals vocals continue to delightfully punish your ears. Behemoth was already at the top of their game and this album will keep them there.
