Description

Black vinyl.

Beherit are without a doubt the originators of Finnish black metal. Taking obscure influences from every part of the world is just what bands at this time did. Often it showed up in random ways, and sometimes their influences were blatant. When taking a look at Beherits Seventh Blasphemy demo the out right satanic feel of the music contained within is immediately apparent. Never ones to release anything in the early days of the band that wasnt a suitable tribute to all things dark and evil; this being their first demo fits right perfectly in with the rest of their discography. There is no mistaking the outright satanic feel of the music on this demo. Starting off with their usual mood setting intro this tape is an unforgiving blasphemous wall of sound. Raw and unapologetic the guitar sound on this is fitting tribute to one of the obvious inspirations on this demo: Sarcofago. Influenced throughout by Brazil’s mighty Sarcofago almost every note heavily bows down to the sound these South American legends previously created. When listening to early Beherit almost all of their efforts prove to be in the style of some other band. Commonly one tends to see it one of two ways. The first being that a band doing this was ripping another band in the scene off. The second which is the way yours truly sees it is the old saying imitation is the best form of flattery. Trying to understand the mind set of bands doing this is not an easy one. It is however much easier to comprehend when applying the statement that was previously mentioned. All of us in our lives have been young at one point in time and with that being said have had to find our way through outside influences. The same holds true with Beherit. As mentioned before the Seventh Blasphemy is an obvious tribute to early Sarcofago. The guitars sound like they came off of the Christs Death demo. Punishing repetitive riffs are abundant throughout this release. The song structure is very primitive. The ridiculously fast parts are played with pure angst and hatred as the slow breakdowns in the songs hold a true-to-form guttural feel. Overall the vocals are not the echoing thick layered variety that most Beherit fans have become used to from Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance. Here they seem much more dry and bellowing deep from some sort of inner demons. They are pure on this with little to no effects on them it would seem. Besides this first demo we also have some rehearsal material from 28th of March 1990 and a live show from Nokia in Finland in 1991. The casual listener might see this as boring uninspired early, raw, outwardly satanic metal. To the trained ear though for people that worship all that was pure and genuine in the underground, before the endless flood of leeches on the soul of our scene; this band had what many today seem to lack: Conviction. These early recordings was the start of something that no one could see coming, raw black metal infesting the world. Worship this
