Description

Mega rare Japanese 1995 album

When Black Sabbath split up after Born Again Tony Iommi set up to record a solo album. The idea was to bring different singers like Ronnie James Dio, Glenn Hughes etc. for the album. Hughes came in and co-wrote some tunes and sang on a few that Iommi had done. Then Iommit called and asked Hughes to come back in. And after a while the material for Seventh Star was all recorded with Hughes on vocals and the record label refused to release it as a solo album and released it as a new Black Sabbath album. To complete the line-up for a new Sabbath group Iommi recruited the skills of Dave The Beast Spitz and drummer Eric Singer (later of Kiss) and for the first time the position of a keyboardist became a visible credit and long-serving back-room operator Geoff Nicholls was finally brought to the foreground as an official member, being in Black Sabbath since Technical Ecstasy. Glenn Hughes were in bad shape at the time and was heavily on drugs. The band brought in some fans and friends to make a live rehearsal on the 14th of March 1986. This was needed to see if the setlist and live settings for the coming Seventh Star would work and probably even see what wouldnt work with Glenn behind the microphone. The tour would start just a week after this recording (on the 21st of March in Cleveland). Only five gigs would be performed with Mr Hughes. Hughes soon got into a fist fight with Black Sabbath production manager John Downing and the injuries he obtained affected his ability to perform live, and vocalist Ray Gillen was subsequently recruited to complete the tour. Due to this short tour its very hard to obtain material with Hughes with Sabbath. The sound isnt top notch on this but as I said its rare. It gets better or otherwise its just your ears that gets adjusted. Hughes doesnt really do justice on the older tracks and probably sounds best on the Seventh Star material.
