Live On The Run were mostly recorded at the Hollywood Palladium on August 10, 1983, around the time of Siogo album. Blackfoot tear through live favourites such as Rattlesnake Rock N Roller, a fierce Train, Train, the epic 10-minute Highway Song which turns into a real steamroller as the band goes into jam mode, and a cover of Free’s Wishing Well. There is also the MTV/radio single Teenage Idol off Siogo, which comes across quite a bit heavier than on record, Blackfoot also performs, interestingly enough, a cover of Uriah Heeps Easy Livin, a tip of the hat of sorts to the presence of then Blackfoot newbie, ex-Heep man Ken Kensley, who wrote the tune. Medlocke and the boys simply smoke this one, like a supercharged Southern Deep Purple, with Hensley’s mean Hammond B3 leading the way. 2:27 min. of intense hard rock heaven. The track On the Run from Tomcattin, is from an earlier Atlanta show from Marauder tour, and the final track, Livin In The City is a fine unreleased studio track, recorded during the Siogo sessions, that did not appear on any album. Truth be told, it sounds more like something recorded for Vertical Smiles – synth prominently in the mix, far removed from the classic Blackfoot Southern Rock sound. A so-so attempt at AOR basically. So what you get hear is a rare unreleased studio tracks and a raw and in-your-face footstompin live recording with Blackfoot! So yeah, it ain’t perfect, and not on par with the legendary Highway Song – Live album recorded in the UK on the Marauder tour 82, but it’s a real honest to goodness live performance, no touch-ups, unlike 95% of the live albums we have in our collections which were doctored up in the studio after the fact. So a cool documentation of vintage Blackfoot and how insanely energetic these guys were in their prime, most of all mainman Rickey Medlocke, one of the great rock n roll frontmen personalities of that golden era of hard rock. Not an essential release by any means but one dedicated Blackfoot disciples should pick up, especially at the price it can be found here.
