Man, it’s insane to think that a band like Blood Feast have been cracking New Jersey shows since 1986. That’s over a course of four decades that this band has been out there kicking ass and taking names all in the glory of good death metal. Their 2019 release Chopped, Sliced And Diced is a veritable cornucopia of crazed riffs. It’s strangely inspiring to hear a band revisit their songs from their early twenties as they deal with the bleak realities of middle age. While there are definitely a few new creative choices, these songs are very much a tour de force from a band who seem dedicated to melting faces wherever they may roam. Blood Feast play into all the wonderful death thrash tropes here, but this is a huge part of what makes them so valuable and such essential listening wherever you may end up. It’s exciting and faster than over the top. The straightforward and almost manic desire for blood that Blood Feast bring to the table is impressive, perhaps even more so when you realize that this same youthful passion is driving them a lifetime later. The circle pit inspiring frenzy of these songs and the clear passion for Hammer Horror gore flicks showcased throughout can’t help but to make you smile. This is sick and depraved death metal, but it’s self aware enough to realize that we are paying tribute to a magical moment in time that will never come again.
