Description
Progressive Norrkoping act Bokor featuring Thomas Eriksson (Year Of The Goat/Griftegard) on guitars. Vermin Soul is the follow up to Anomia 1 and it was written, recorded and produced by the band itself at Realtime Recording with the sound crafting, editing and mixing skills of Daniel Gese. Artwork, guest vocals and inspiring ideas came from the immense talent of Valentin Mellstrom. Rhodes piano and Hammond were once again played by Niclas Kinnander. Vermin Soul is described in a press release as more of everything . . . Try to think at a sort of mixture of very unique bands such as Tool, Mastodon, Opeth, Porcupine Tree and Anathema and youll get an idea of what Bokor sound like. Most songs on Vermin Soul are sprawling epics, touching on the dark then back to light and grey in between. Lars Carlberg has one of the finest voices in Rock, capably handling everything from clear melodic tones to harsher heavier tones. Tool is an obvious influence without Bokor sounding derivative. It has a 70’s epic feel to it from both the music and production but still remains modern and fresh. Standout tracks for me are the 15 minute epic ‘Iesu from Matteroso’ and ‘Oh glory in the void’. This album and band should have classic status but remain relatively unknown. If you buy this album, you won’t be disappointed and it may just open your eyes a little in comparison to more commercially acceptable rock, this is how rock could be if bands and labels were a little braver. Commented the band: A frequent question in the interviews for our last record was if it was a theme-album. No, it wasn’t. This album may be. Indeed, all children know where spiders come from. After all, the roaches, rats, mosquitoes and woodlice will survive in the end. And that’s a soothing thought.
