Description

Rare Australian release in tri-folded digipak

New Jersey veteran rockers Bon Jovi became the first band ever to play the Times Square Nokia Theatre when they launched a release pary for their new album Have A Nice Day on the 21st of September 2005. With a capacity of 2,200, the Nokia isn’t tiny. But it delivers the feel of a club because of the multiple balconies that hug the stage, allowing more patrons close to the stage than at conventional theaters. While it’s far from the perfect rock venue, the sound – delivered through hundreds of small, shiny new JBL speakers – was very good, the sight lines were unobstructed and the joint is small enough that you don’t need a telescope to see the stars. The air conditioning, however, was abysmal. And inside the auditorium, the Nokia has all the style and warmth of a McDonald’s. This is probably the smallest thing we did since dinner last night at my place, joked Jon Bon Jovi . The audience included some high celebrities such as Jay-Z, Beyonce and L.A. Reid, among others. The band have sold 100 million-plus albums worldwide and performed more than 2,500 concerts in front of 32 million people, Bon Jovi have embraced the notion of spectacle throughout their twenty-two-year career. The band started things off with the aggressive Last Man Standing. It was one of a handful of new songs off of Have A Nice Day, along with the album’s defiant title track and the upbeat Who Says You Can’t Go Home. The band ware in good mood and performed a nice energy-loaded show that delivered emotional readings of their early heartland rocker The Radio Saved My Life Tonight and an unplugged Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night. This night Bon Jovi showed that any critic who consider Bruce Springsteen the only favorite son of New Jersey tend to discount the rock n roll heart and heft of Bon Jovi. The band showed what an undeniable gift they still had for hot-wired hooks and choruses. Their new album Have A Nice Day has a nice way of slapping a crooked grin on the grim state of mainstream rock. —
