Only Lonely was the first single from Bon Jovi’s sophomore release 7800° Fahrenheit. Ever since the keyboard call to arms of the breakthrough Runaway, Bon Jovi had understood that real success lay in a billowing smoke, soft-focus derivation of true metal, where Journey-style synthesizers and soft rock chorus vocals were the name of the game. Only Lonely was melodic and made it into the charts where it peaked at number 54 at the Hot 100 list in 1985. It was also the sign that this band were able to write songs that could hit a bigger audience something that would be proved on their third album Slippery When Wet.
