As pagan/folk metal is currently celebrating an all-time high with new acts popping up everywhere, overcrowded shows, even chart success in many European countries, it is about time to honour a band that has paved the way for all of them. Since their conception in 1995, Norways Borknagar have created a monolithic fundament for anything related to epic, progressive folk metal art embodying the ice-cold Nordic nature of their home country like rarely any other band in the genre. With seven studio albums under their belt, band members also active in such renowned bands as Emperor, Vintersorg etc., Borknagar and especially mastermind Oystein G. Brun righteously inhabit a special position within the field of avant-garde, highly atmospheric Northern music. Thus, For The Elements (1996-2006), Borknagars first best-of release spanning a decade of enormous creativity and visionary art, finally grants this elemental act its hard earned and well-deserved laurels.
