Cannibal Corpse were formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1988, their line-up composed mostly of musically active scenesters: vocalist Chris Barnes, guitarists Bob Rusay and Jack Owen, bassist Alex Webster, and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. Musically, they were closest to Slayer, although more extreme metal bands like Death also played a role in their sound. This limited album features the very first available material with the band. It includes the first demo that helped the band secure a contract with Metal Blade Records as well as the very first live recording with the band, which took place in their hometown of Buffalo on the 22nd of March 1989. So as far as ultra-cult necro-death recordings, this pretty much takes the gore-garnished cake. Cannibal Corpse’s first demo offering, a brief sampling of songs that would later appear re-recorded on their debut, is their finest confection, and their first ever live show that includes two tracks that still remains unreleased. So a must have despite the horrendous production.
