Carnivore was a legendary hardcore thrash act from Brooklyn, New York that later turned into Type O Negative. The Carnivore material was heavy punk influenced and had harsh lyrics about the world we live in. Even though Type O Negative’s epic brand of gothic metal was still just a glimmer in Pete Steeles eye at this time, one can already recognize the fascinating range of creative contradictions that would always characterize the 6’7″ man-mountain’s work. After Carnivore broke up in 1989, Peter Steele formed the short-lived follow-up band Repulsion. In 1990 they released a demo tape and played a few gigs under their new name. They also played a one-off gig as Carnivore at L’ Amour in Brooklyn, Usa on the 6th of October 1990. This one off gig can be found on this album almost complete, the 3 tracks that were performed in the encore are missing. Then at some point in early 1991 the band name was changed to Type O Negative and the band finally found the success they had been struggling to get for several years.
