Hardcore thrash, New York style, it has a heavy punk influence and harsh lyrics about the world we live in, including some that still hold up today (such as the frightening “Race War” and “Inner Conflict”). Somewhat like a punker version of Slayer, this is their second (and best) album. Carnivore features the larger-than-life vocalist/bassist Pete Steele, and even though Type O Negative’s epic brand of gothic metal was still just a glimmer in his eye, in retrospect one can already recognize the fascinating range of creative contradictions that would always characterize the 6’7″ man-mountain’s work.
