Description

A tribute album is a way of saying we love you. Order Of The Tyrants isnt the first tribute album to the Swiss avant-garde metal extremists, Celtic Frost, which is a good indicator of the trailblazing group’s strong and enduring impact on the genre. And, perhaps more tellingly, Order Of The Tyrants rounds up a very impressive cast of contributors, including Scandinavian black metal titans Marduk and Dimmu Borgir (both of whom submit vigorously faithful renditions of Into The Crypt Of Rays and Nocturnal Fear, respectively), as well as perennial favorites and rising stars (Akercocke, Necrophagia, and Bewitched); from all over Europe and America. Special mention must be given to all-female group Astarte, who lay down a superb version of Sorrows Of The Moon that doesn’t just hold its own against the rest of the boys, but manages to out-extreme the original to boot. As with all tribute albums, there’s little middle ground for opinions here: either you dig em or you don’t. To many, the very concept is at best wasteful — and at worst, loathsome — but if you count yourself among those who enjoy hearing a different take on the original article, this release will do quite nicely.
