China Sky was something that was formed out of Bobby Ingram Project, a band that had been going since the early 80s. Bobby Ingram Project went through lots of disappointments but Bobby never lost faith, he always kept pushing to keep writing and doing demos rather than go out and play cover tunes at little bar gigs. In 1984 the band signed a management deal with Pat Armstrong And Associates. Mr Armstrongs got B.I.P together with a hit songwriter named Frank Wildhorn in 1987 and one of Frank’s songs for the project contained the lyric ‘under a China Sky’ and the record company thought that would make a better name for the band. However the label had their demands if they were going to spend money on the band. They came up with the name and the artwork for their debut album. The band name were hated by all members of the band. Their debut however was pretty impressive straight-ahead ultra smooth AOR. However the band fell apart and it would take some years before China Sky were re-born. New guitarist Steve Wheeler, keyboardist Tim McGowan and drummer Bruce Crump was hired. With all of the pieces firmly in place, China Sky entered the studio to begin production of their second album after 25 years. And this album is a welcome return for the band as its a strong album of melodic rock with some real throwbacks to the 80s. Perry may not be what he was 27 years ago but no one are. But there are some serious diamonds among the tunes so fans of the first album need to lay their hands on this one
