Clandestine Blaze is one of the most enduring, essential and downright awesome entities in Black Metal and has consistently delivered music of the very highest calibre. Even though the back catalogue is immense and every album is laudable, Mikko Aspa’s (also in Deathspell Omega) one-man sledgehammer does appear to be gathering momentum with each release. Aspa’s eigth full-length album, New Golgotha Rising, makes your feel like he wanted to step back from the more epic styled taken on the previous album Harmony Of Struggle. The whole idea behind that album seemed to be more focused on a atmospheric confrontation with a doomed and wrecked humanity. Whereby on New Golgotha Rising he aims for a more raw and bitter raid onto your subconsciousness. He reduces the sound to a minimum and coincidently raises his hate to a maximum lyrically wise. The guitars are highly distorted all the time and it seems like a bass is total absent. Which creates a thin and sorta weak sound. But also resulting in a bitter coldness and obscenity, which is just perfect for what this album wants to transport. The product is a raving merciless piece of traditional Black Metal in his coldest northern meaning.
